Integrating Prayer Into Your Daily Life
An IntroductionMost of life can be summed up by four questions: What is happening now? What will be in the future? How will we get there? How are we doing? Having completed the circle, we come back to the beginning, and begin anew.
These thoughts are “apt words in season” for this workshop, Integrating Prayer Into Your Daily Life. Prayer has become an acceptable word in our culture, but not a fully developed practice. The phrase, “we're all praying for you,” has replaced, “I'll bring over a casserole,” as modern comfort language, but there's a whole lot less investment. People are pretty clear what it means when the casserole shows up, but are less clear when the prayer isn't shared in person, or if it is being offered at all. There's no dish to clean up and return, so where is the real support?
What we have before us is a glorious opportunity to welcome a familiar term and practice into our lives in a fundamentally new and creatively challenging way. We can stretch our minds, hearts and spirits, spin some new expectations and weave new desires and feelings of confidence into our souls. We can allow God to grasp our hands, gently, but firmly, and lead us in ways we would not be able to go alone.
Making a plan, bringing a trusted friend on the journey, and traveling with an eager vision of what can be add a strength, flexibility and freedom in abundant measure. Once the map is marked, it also helps to stay on the path, but it always helps to be willing to make way for some important explorations off the path as you see fit.
Journeys are best documented because we can turn back, over pages, photographs and special souvenirs to fully embrace where we have been, and to be able to enjoy the experience as part of us forever. This journey will be no different.
Integrating Prayer Into Your Daily Life is a workshop gathered into eight two hour sessions that will allow you to examine your prayer life, making the changes you want to make and creating ways to maintain the changes as an ongoing commitment in your life. Components of the workshop sessions will include opportunities for discussion, reflection, journaling, reading provided articles and personal sharing.
Enjoy this adventure. Take lots of pictures and keep a journal. Even if no one else sees the photographs or reads the thoughts, they most likely will see both reflected in your soul.
